Licence
Drift's licence in plain words
Drift's source code is public. The one thing the licence rules out is using it to build a product that competes with Drift.
What you can do
- Use Drift for anything: your own projects, your firm's drawings, client work, teaching.
- Read, change and build the source code, and share your changes.
What you can't do
Offer Drift, or something made from its code, as a commercial product or service that stands in for Drift or does much the same job. For example, you can't sell a CAD sketcher built from Drift's code, or host Drift as a paid online service.
Two years later, it's Apache 2.0
Two years after each version is released, that version also becomes available under the Apache License 2.0, a standard open-source licence with no such limit. So every version ends up fully open source.
The licence
Drift is licensed under the Functional Source License, Version 1.1, ALv2 Future License(FSL-1.1-ALv2).
Other people's code
Drift is built with open-source libraries and fonts. Their licences and copyright notices are listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt, and in Drift under About → Licences…
This page is a summary to help you understand the licence. It isn't legal advice, and if it ever differs from the licence text, the licence text is what counts.
